- •Provides a significant performance boost for gaming and design programs like AutoCAD, with the AMD Ryzen 9-8940HX and Nvidia RTX 5060 combo impressing compared to older HP Intel-based laptops.
- •Equipped with a large 32 GB DDR5 RAM and fast 1 TB PCIe SSD, ensuring smooth multitasking and quick load times.
- •The 16" 2K (1920x1200) 144Hz display offers sharp visuals and a high refresh rate suitable for immersive gaming experiences.
- •Fans run quieter than earlier OMEN models, improving overall user comfort during heavy use.
- •The keyboard is backlit, adding convenience for low-light gaming or work sessions.
- •Battery life is reportedly longer than the previous generation, with an improved charger cable length enhancing usability.
- •The laptop appears to be lighter than the listed weight, possibly aiding portability.
Cons
- •Battery life is still a major pain point, draining about 1% every minute even with light use, making it almost necessary to stay plugged in.
- •Some quality control issues exist, including reports of screens arriving with scratches and the overall quality feeling below expectations based on the product description.
- •The keyboard backlighting doesn’t always meet user expectations, with some complaints about it not functioning properly.
- •Lacks facial recognition camera, limiting advanced biometric security options for users who value that feature.
- •Random lag can occur during simple tasks like browsing, which is frustrating given the high-end specs.
- •The annoying copilot button on the keyboard sometimes requires third-party tools to disable, detracting from the user experience.
- •FN lock feature doesn’t work as described in the manual, adding to usability annoyances.
- •Overall, some users find it underperforms in day-to-day use despite its powerful hardware, leading to disappointment.
Bottom Line
The HP OMEN Gaming Laptop with Ryzen 9 and RTX 5060 is a powerhouse for gaming and creative work, delivering strong performance and a great display. However, the battery life seriously underwhelms for a gaming rig, and some quality control and usability quirks might annoy you if you expect flawless polish. If advanced security like facial recognition or flawless out-of-the-box reliability is on your checklist, you might want to look elsewhere or wait for firmware and software improvements. For comparable performance with possibly better polish, keep an eye on other newer gaming laptops from competitors or upcoming HP OMEN revisions.
